Do this now or miss out. Push harder or fall behind. If it hurts, it must be working.
The result is predictable.
People start out motivated. They train too hard, too often, with no structure. Life gets busy. Work piles up. Kids get sick. Sleep drops. Training slips. Guilt creeps in. Eventually they quit, convinced the problem was them.
